WHAT IS A MUSIC NOTE?

According Wikipedia Music note is a symbol denoting a musical sound. In English usage a note is also the sound itself. Notes can represent the pitch and duration of a sound in musical notation. A note can also represent a pitch class.

Sometimes, I listen to people’s music and I try to play and score the notes so that I can play very well if I come across such songs. But to my greatest surprise that am even playing off notes despite my hard work trying to get the notes right.

Sometimes I play exactly or modernize it to my own taste and own the notes i.e. my own lines of the song, but I still don’t satisfy with it. Someone will still say am playing off notes.

If you think you are a professional in any field of endeavor, my dear it’s a lie, nobody is absolutely professional or know all. Why do I say that? Because even I can play or do crazy things that a professional no matter how good you are, you will get it wrong, may be at first three trials you get it wrong or not get it at all.

It is hard to get it all right. No wonder the people says “that a man’s food is another man’s poison” that is: “what you think you can play to amaze people or even yourself; might be the basic for others”.

Nobody is actually a professional no matter how good, if you insist, then everybody is a professional, good or bad in their fields or in their own way.

So what do I do to get it right to my own taste? What I do is: if I can get the basic notes of a song, I play it till it becomes a root note for what I am going to use it for. Then use it to create something so crazily nonsense but have good sense in it to me, that it’s only another and a better professional that will detect and pick sense out of it.

I take the song, rehearse it and make it mine. That is own that cover in my own skillful lines. Isn’t that awesome? Stop killing yourself, you are a professional too.

I trained a young boy of 17 – 19 years if am not mistaken, last 2 years on how to play a bass guitar, talking him down to take it slowly, that he will understand and get it right soon and better, if and only if he is committed to it. As at then he was not serious. But when he finally done with the training, He played stuffs that even me I was not so sure I could do that in just a mere look or listening to it. So that is life.

In conclusion, I don’t look down on people’s abilities or little beginning. Even God said we shouldn’t.
